The Barents Peoples’ Kitchen

How do we consume and what do we leave behind? On average, Norwegians throw away 46 kilos of food per person per year. We can all agree that this is too much. Now you have the opportunity to be involved in a small resistance against all this food waste!

In cooperation with local food stores, Tromsø folkekjøkken (Tromsø Peoples’ Kitchen) collects out of date food that is still edible. This is prepared and served with the help of volunteers who want to participate in the project. Here you cook and eat the food together. During the Barents Spektakel 2018 Tromsø folkekjøkken has become the Barents Peoples’ Kitchen and all are invited. The work begins from 10:00 every day and lasts until 16:00. If you do not have the whole day, or are just a little curious, come by and contribute just a little, taste the food, get to know new people and enjoy a good conversation with other engaged participants.

During the Barents Spektakel 2018, the Barents Peoples’ Kitchen is open the following dates:

22-24 February,
10:00 – 16:00

Meals will be served at approx. 13:00
The project is initiated by the artist and bio-laboratory researcher, Liv Bangsund. Joining her in Kirkenes is artist Agata Magdalena Sulikowska.

Every day from 11:00 at the Town Square, the Barents Peoples’ Kitchen serves “Barents soup”. Here you will also find a small food bazar; Valentina Kuuva from Local Products offers their exquisite fish products from our own Pasvik, while Marit Sundt both serves and tells you more about Chaga teen in her own little Chaga showroom!
